Chef Jade van der Spuy wins Junior chef of the year..........and the schools retains its title for the 4th year in a row. Jade was chosen nationally to compete in Joburg against 8 other contestants and came out tops.
August 2011
1000 Hills Chefs school participated in a cookoff on the 20th August against Fusion cooking school and came out tops again by winning first place. Well done to Walkin, Haley F and Tinashe on this achievement.
July 2011
2 of our lectures' Jade van der Spuy and Charmaine Allan entered the Unilver Food Solutions Chef of the Year competition in the Junior and Senior category. They entered their written recipes and were chosen for the Regional finals. The Regional finals took place on the 5th August and both of them made it through to the finals which will take place on the 16th Sep in Johannesburg. All our 2nd year students entered the Hudson & Knights Masters bake-off competition which was launched in early March 2011 in the Culinary students category. We are proud to announce that out of the 3 finalists chosen country wide 2 are from our school. Congradulations to Amy Edwards and Callum Branfield. The competition takes place in Joburg on the 16th July and we wish them the best of luck.
2010
We entered the Unilever Chef of the Year. Chef Dixi (Senior category) and Chef Charmaine (Junior Category) competed against both top International and National Chefs. Our Chefs did the school proud whilst showcasing their skills and talent with Chef Dixi winning second place (Senior Category) and Chef Charmaine winning second place (Junior Category). First place (Junior) was won by Christo Pretorius, 1000 Hills Chefs School past pupil. This completes our hatric of wins for the Unilever Chef of the Year competition - 2008, 2009 and 2010.
Amy Edwards and Whitney Kilfoil also won the Sunday Times Chef School Challenge bringing home the trophy for 2nd place! Their choice of menu was a South African theme, and received great praise from critics.
Our ever increasing awards shelf is a true testament to the caliber of teaching received by our students. We continue to consistently rank in the top of all competitions we have entered and this is truly an achievement to be proud of - and we most certainly are!
We brought home the trophy for the Inter-Schools Competition 2010. What a way to end off yet another successful year!
